breakfast with...

Sean Patrick is allowed to watch one episode of Yo Gabba Gabba or Classical Baby in the morning (his choice) and he's enjoyed it lately with his breakfast. I spread out his comforter because he sometimes spills his yogurt :/

Breakfast and The Beatles

We were all up very early this morning since Dan had to drop his truck off for service at the shop. So we all decided to go out to breakfast at one of our fave diners, Conrads.

Mmmm...bacon!

Mom, Dad, I need to clean the bacon grease off my hands STAT.

Then we got home and had an impromptu Rock Band drum party to The Beatles tunes.

Another milestone...self-feeding

SP now prefers to feed himself :) He's getting more and more accurate with every bite. Here he is with his "appetizer" of puffs, peas and carrots:

Just like his father...an attempt at salmon

So this was a major FAIL on the first attempt at salmon...

We'll need to give him some time to forget this experience before we give it a whirl again.

For this meal, we used the Happy Baby brand of organic baby food from Whole Foods called Super Salmon (it's a double pack, complimented by Regular Prunes). It's in the freezer section. Here are the ingredients for the Super Salmon: organic potato, organic sweet potato, organic carrots, organic french lentils, wild salmon and organic coconut oil. Sounds good but it was still a major fail :)

Spaghetti!!

Daddy whipped up some alphabet pasta especially for Sean Patrick on spaghetti night at the Boland house. He loved it!

More self feeding, this time it's one of his faves: melt-in-your-mouth puffs - woo hoo!

Yogurt where it shouldn't be...

Not sure how well you can see but there's yogurt on Sean Patrick's right EYE! Sometimes SP is a very spirited eater.

9-month birthday photos

The theme for this photo shoot was inspired by Sean Patrick's favorite items at the moment: books! He loves to turn the pages and look at the pictures. We've had to bulk up our library of board books since he also likes to chew on his books at this point and books with regular pages aren't so great for that purpose :)

Look at that pinky finger - so proper!

Here are a few videos of cuteness in action:

He can turn pages all day long, he loves it!

Sean Patrick is an adventurous eater, he tries everything we offer and has seemed to like it all so far (although he makes the cutest horrified faces as he's tasting things).

Okay, I'm tired...annnnnnnnd we're done!

Strawberries

Sean Patrick tried (organic) strawberries today (after the okay from his doctor) but it looks like he had more fun playing with the bowl...

On a side note, you can see that Sean Patrick's hair is growing pretty steady at this point. If you look at his ears, you'll see that a few locks of hair are

Sorry, I have a video but it won't post...I've been trying to post it for days without luck!

Pancakes, the Park and Katsuya

Today was one of those perfect family days - good food, carefree day and fun times.

We started the day with blueberry pancakes. The mini ones are for Sean Patrick:

These are Sean Patrick's first pieces of pancake (no syrup):
He is still not coordinated enough to pick things up and precisely get them in his mouth. We are at a grab-and-stuff-into-mouth situation...sometimes he gets things in his mouth, but mostly not. Here he is planning his attack...

Daddy ends up giving him a hand to get some in his mouth:
Then we headed over to Americana on Brand in Glendale. It's an outdoor mall with a lovely plaza area. The plaza has nice, shaded grassy areas plus a kids playground. It also has a lovely fountain where water dances to synchronized music once an hour.
Ok truth: I picked this location because I know that dogs are not allowed on the plaza at Americana on Brand. I wanted Sean Patrick's first experience on grass to be dog pee and poop free :)

Sean Patrick really liked the grass. At first, he didn't know what to make of it. It seemed that he was unsure if he could crawl on it but he tested the waters and then he was off. You'll see in this video that at the very end, the water show starts at the fountain (to his left) so that's what he's looking at the end:

While we were at Americana on Brand, we stopped in at Mommy's favorite sushi place...Katsuya. The best Katsuya location is the original one in Studio City, this one we went to in Glendale is "Katsuya by Stark" - a fancy-pants version of the original.

Very modern interior:

Fancy-pants menu:

Sean Patrick was not fazed by the fancy-pants restaurant. He dropped his puffs on the floor like he was at home and played fetch with his water bottle and the waiters (he even charmed the people at the next table to pick up his water bottle).

Sean Patrick chowed down on his puffs while Mommy had her all-time favorite Katsuya dish, crispy rice with spicy tuna (while Daddy enjoyed a Kobe cheeseburger):

SP had a ball!

Yogurt Yo!

We got the green light to give Sean Patrick yogurt by the pediatrician so we headed to the store to pick some up.

We got organice Yo Baby yogurt (we're starting with the peach & pear)

He loves it!
All gone.

More Biscuits

There's already a video of SP eating a biscuit on the blog but I had to include the one below because I love the way he smacks his lips, so cute!

Nectarines

Both my camera battery and memory card were on their last legs so I didn't get any pics of the beautiful organic nectarines I bought (on sale - woot!) but here's the video of Sean Patrick tasting nectarine puree for the first time:

He loved it, of course.

Here's what Sean Patrick thinks of spinach:

The kid LOVES it!

Here's a video of his first few bites:

Brunch, Biscuits and Bandanas

We went to brunch with Auntie Cat this morning at one our favorite neighborhood restaurants (Dish in La Canada), it was Sean Patrick's first meal "out."

While we waited for Auntie Cat to arrive, SP helped Daddy make his breakfast selection:

And then he played for a while...we got several patrons visit our table to let us know how cute SP is (duh!):

Time for baby to eat...he had Mommy's homemade pear puree and organic baby oatmeal - he loved it and finished all of it.

With Auntie Cat:

Playing around some more before we left:

When we got home, Daddy thought it would be funny to wrap a bandana around his head to go with SP's Run DMC t-shirt:

This was followed by SP showing off his *almost" crawling skills:

Snack time! Mmm...teething biscuit, SP really liked it:
